Support Parent Training

Our parent-to-parent matching (mentoring) is the foundation of our program. When children are born prematurely or with a special need having someone to talk with who has “been there” makes all the difference in the world. The purpose of the workshop is to orient parents so that they may support others by helping them cope with the initial shock and day-to-day challenges they face. If you would like to help another parent by lending an ear through a difficult period, please join us to better prepare yourself for this wonderful volunteer position. We are looking for parents who have experienced everything from being in the NICU to a specific special need. Volunteers are always free to accept or decline a match based on their current schedules and availability. This workshop will help you identify your child’s strengths and needs and use evaluation information to prepare for writing an Individualized Education Program. Learn how to actively participate in writing the IEP and navigate the “maze” of forms and paperwork. Tune up your skills and identify strategies to ensure that your child’s IEP is implemented and changed as she/he grows.
