History

The program began in 1984 as a father’s support group but soon became a parent support group known as Parent-to-Parent. The first support parent training was held in 1985. In 1989 the group developed an organizational structure including by-laws and a board of directors and was incorporation as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. The program’s name was changed in 1991 to Family Support Network of Wake County and is affiliated with Family Support Network of North Carolina.
